Artist Statement:
Wearing an identity bracelet with an other
persons Name means having this Person
with you, in a metaphoric way. someone
belongs to you, and begins being a part of
you.
The submitted Bracelet, incorporates many
identities in one piece. It shows past times,
old relations, friends, departed people,
fictions. The names are not erased. Layer
over layer, every Name is still important
and left his mark on the Bracelet,to create a
new pattern.
What was your starting point or your
inspiration for doing this project?
Doing the Bastard Collection was already a
look into the field. We created jewelry
pieces based on the term Bastard.
Connecting sides, and things, like wealthy
and cheap, old and new, to generate new
pieces inspires us.
Do you have a personal (or other)
connection to the exhibition’s theme?
We don't have a personal connection, but
for the Bastard theme we were strongly
inspired by contemporary Music hybrids:
Mash- up's. For example, one songs upon
the other playing at the same time, like
Grandmaster flash the message and maybe
russian folklore.
We used old jewelry which already has a
history and our sight with new technics.
What were the main reasons for choosing
the materials, shapes or technique in your
work?
It was already given material an shape, we
just used laser engraving as technic.
What kind of feeling you wish the viewers
will get from your work?
Irritation, something you might know, but
you can't distinguish exactly, subtle irony.
We wish that every viewer sees his or her
own names on the Bracelet.
If you could give your Jewelry to an
important figure in the Middle East who
will he/she be? and why?
This jewelry is for all the people the Middle
East.
