Artist Statement:

The unsolved situation in the Middle East

leads both sides to constant frustration.

As a person who was born and live in this

area, the conflict which I'm part of, interact

in my everyday life; sometimes it breaks the

routine and sometimes it fades away,

however I always feel an irritating

sensation, like a painful pinch in the skin

as I open the radio listening to the news or

a twinge in the heart every time I look at my

small nephews knowing one day they will

become soldiers.

The work I'm suggesting deals with the

idea of the 'pinch'; using a clamp to 'tweak'

the metal than unfolded it and rolled to a

shape of a simple strip ring, the pinch left

its mark on the metal to become a

decorative remembrance - the identity of the

pinch is fixed as an

annoying pain like a scar that never fades.

I chose the ring shape since the ring is the

closest jewelry to the skin - it surrounds/

chokes the finger, creating a tight

connection

between body and recollection, forming

memories that sometimes you wish to

forget…

What was your starting point or your

inspiration for doing this project?

I believe that in conflict situations, both

sides wear scars. This work deals with this

basic feeling of pain.

Do you have a personal (or other)

connection to the exhibition’s theme?

Not directly.

What were the main reasons for choosing

the materials, shapes or technique in your

work?

I looked for elastic soft metal which can

work well with the technique. I found those

in pure tin.

What kind of feeling you wish the viewers

will get from your work?

A kind of physical feeling alongside an

aesthetic perception.

If you could give your Jewelry to an

important figure in the Middle East who

will he/she be? and why?

Hmm…I don't know…
