Artist Statement:

War is ugly. Wounds are ugly. A missing

eye can not always be replaced by an

artificial eye. Plastic surgery can not always

fix the damages. An eye patch is a good

solution for covering those damages. Why

not wear a fancy eye patch?

What was your starting point or your

inspiration for doing this project?

I have been making eye patches for my son

for the last 6 years. When I read about the

competition, it was an instinctive thought

to make a jewel like eye patch.

Do you have a personal (or other)

connection to the exhibition’s theme?

6 years ago my son who served in the IDF,

was wounded and lost his left eye. After all

kind of treatments and rehabilitation, he

decided to permanently wear an eye patch

so that it would cover the damaged area.

Since then we always made the patches by

ourselves, trying different shapes and

materials.

What were the main reasons for choosing

the materials, shapes or technique in your

work?

Glass beads were an intuitive choice, then I

decided to use a metallic color that can be

aesthetic but it also Reminds me of bullets,

guns etc.

What kind of feeling you wish the viewers

will get from your work?

Wounds leave physical and mental scars,

but by dealing with them it makes us grow.

Politically wise, I wish I could say – ok,

this is the price we paid for having peace,

but I am afraid That peace is still very far

away, unless we will make a radical

change.

If you could give your Jewelry to an

important figure in the Middle East who

will he/she be? and why?

When I think of the sight of our leaders,

unfortunately so many of them are totally

blind to the situation, Others have a very

limited sight. They need eye openers. There

are 2 women that I would love to give them

a gift of mine – one is Dr. Ruchama Marton

from Israel, A psychotherapist, psychiatrist

and feminist and the founder of PHR –

Physicians for Human Rights – Israel.

PHR is active in promoting a society that is

based on the values of human rights,

solidarity, social justice,  Equality and

mutual assistance for all populations under

Israel's responsibility. The other woman is

HM Queen Noor of Jordan, who plays an

active role in promoting Arab-western

relations as well as many other

humanitarian and social issues, health,

environmental and educational ones. They

are a real inspiration to me.
